BCS Business Analysis Certification Updates

Everything you need to know about the new BCS Business Analysis Diploma

Following the rebranding of the “BCS” to “BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT”, focus has now turned to the ISEB certification portfolio. As part of an initiative to align the certifications with other areas of the Institute, the BCS is making a number of alterations that you will begin to notice from the start of 2012. We will be updating our Business Analysis training courses to reflect these changes and continue to prepare you to the highest standard for the BCS examinations.

So, here’s a roundup of the changes and how they will affect you.

The BCS Professional Certfication portfolio replaces the ISEB Brand (January 2012)

Following conversations with IT professionals, organisations, training providers and experts from the industry, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, are rebranding their certifications from ISEB to the BCS Professional Certification portfolio. This means that the ISEB Certificates in Business Analysis now become the BCS Certificates in Business Analysis, and the ISEB Diploma in Business Analysis becomes the BCS Diploma in Business Analysis.

The move aims to ensure that the BCS Professional Certification portfolio is positioned appropriately with the IT skills and competency framework – SFIAplus, along with other services offered by the BCS, in order to provide greater support to the IT community.

ISEB Business Analysis Essentials renamed to BCS Business Analysis Practice (February 2012)

To more accurately reflect the topics covered within the module, the ISEB Certificate in Business Analysis Essentials is to become the BCS Certificate in Business Analysis Practice from 1st February 2012. There are no changes to the syllabus and BCS Business Analysis Practice remains a Practitioner level certification, as well as a Core module of the BCS Business Analysis Diploma.

The change will not affect any candidates that have already completed ISEB Business Analysis Essentials. It is only a name change and will not affect your route to the BCS Diploma in Business Analysis – your current certificate remains valid.

ISEB Organisational Context replaced by BCS Commercial Awareness (April 2012)

The most significant change to the BCS Business Analysis certifications is to the ISEB Organisational Context module. This will be replaced by a new Foundation level certificate – BCS Commercial Awareness. The new module will still cover many of the financial areas from the ISEB Organisational Context module, but it will also explore organisational behaviour in greater depth, leaving out legal issues and business functions. It will also be the replacement for ISEB Organisational Context, as one of the knowledge-based specialisms leading to the BCS Diploma in Business Analysis. To be consistent with other Foundation level certificates, the examination will become a 1 hour multiple choice paper, consisting of 40 questions, with a pass mark of 65%.

At TCC, we have a wide range of training courses for Business Analysts and our trainers are all experienced, practicing Business Analysts. If you are interested in gaining a BCS certification, then why not book onto a BCS Business Analysis course today!
