The DSDM Agile Project Framework - TCC to support the next evolution of DSDM

Date: Monday, June 30, 2014

Agile training and consultancy provider, TCC, is pleased to announce its support for the DSDM Agile Project Framework.

Since the introduction of DSDM Atern - the previous version of DSDM launched in 2007 - the business world has moved forward. The ever-increasing pace of change continues to drive the take-up of Agile, which is now seen as mainstream, with the majority of organisations using it for at least some of their projects and others transforming their whole ethos and thinking to Agile.

With each Agile approach having its own particular strengths and weaknesses, experience has shown that choosing a single approach does not always address all of the challenges facing an organisation. “Blended Agile”, where two or more approaches are brought together, is becoming increasingly common.

The next evolution of DSDM – the DSDM Agile Project Framework - has been designed to support closer integration with other approaches. Whilst it remains a self-contained approach to Agile project management and solution delivery in its own right, it can now also be used to provide an overarching Agile structure for the management of projects with other Agile approaches, such as Scrum, at their core.

DSDM provides a sound framework in which Agile teams can deliver consistently and predictably to meet business needs, on time and within budget. The DSDM Agile Project Framework defines roles and responsibilities, including business roles and project governance. It gives a clear, light structure within which a multi-skilled team can self-organise and work to a clear roadmap of increments, doing just enough design up front (EDUF). The team focuses on delivering results early and frequently during short timeboxes, with the right people and empowerment in the development teams. After each timebox, the framework advocates a retrospective to enable teams to improve their working practices; after each increment, it guides the assessment of benefits realised. The approach is well-documented and is supported by a series of guidance handbooks, specific to individual team roles and to the overall approach. There are practical White Papers and Case Studies, drawn from experiences “in the field”, addressing specific issues.

TCC will be adding to its portfolio of DSDM training with the introduction of DSDM Agile Project Framework courses based on the approach and will offer coaching and mentoring for those using DSDM in the workplace.

Dot Tudor, TCC Technical Director and a key member of the DSDM Consortium team that developed the DSDM Agile Project Framework said, “Agile is the only way to deal with the complex, rapidly-changing business environment of today, where the ability to make fast, business focused change on a continual basis is essential. The DSDM Agile Project Framework is an evolution of DSDM, the longest established of the Agile approaches. This evolution draws together the best practices of Agile today, and blends well with other Agile approaches. It provides a framework within which collaborative, cross-functional teams have the guidance, clarity of purpose and empowerment to consistently deliver great results.”
